The Baggetts won their session in a raffle benefiting the March of Dimes, held by Rho. And they were awesome to work with! They have such cute little girls, and I had a great time photographing them!

Hoo-boy, was this wedding amazing! The weather was perfect. The venue was amazing! The guests were so much fun! The bride and groom were stunning! And the lighting was unreal--I loved every picture-snapping second of it!

It took place at the incredible Page-Walker Arts & History Center in downtown Cary, the same place where we took Allie's bridal portraits. I can't say enough good things about this venue--so many great details, the amazing setup, the way the light looks when the sun sets--me oh my!

But let's get to the couple, shall we? This is Allie and Allan's favorite picture from their day. And it very well be mine, too. I love the way they're looking at each other!

and these napkins made me smile--and were great for a ring shot!

And there's a few things you should know about these photos...yes, everything really was that pretty. The dress, the rings, the gals--and yes, even the cupcakes. And yes, you're right about those both being the Mountaineers. They have an ongoing debate about who the real Mountaineers are--hence the picture.

I love getting to see the little ones grow up--they are so very precious! And it's astounding to see how much they change over a year!

We visited Downtown Durham (near and dear to my heart!) one fine Saturday morning, and little Jacob's cuteness was overwhelming! I love it!

I've worked with half of this group for quite some time now, and it was great having them bring along family! I loved seeing the cousins interact, and seeing how the closeness between all of them is almost palpable. And it definitely didn't hurt that the light and weather were particularly glorious that day!

Pretty soon I'll be showing you the newborn photos I took of the Amireh's baby boy!

I have probably said it a hundred times and I'm sure I'll say it a couple hundred times more--I LOVE taking engagement pictures! I get to know so much about a couple and their personality, and they so dang FUN! I love it that Willodean and Jason had multiple "looks"--one of which was soft and romantic, see?

And then they had a dressy outfit, followed by a change of dress for Willodean. She had a sassy dress and amazing shoes-I love it! And it's always great working with a could that has a clear idea of what they want in their engagement pictures, but that also is willing to try whatever crazy ideas I suggest. For example: see that picture on the bottom right. I said "okay, stand right here and kiss. yes, next to those pipes." and the didn't bat an eye :)

can't wait to photograph your wedding this november!!

The Matthews House in Cary is GORGEOUS! I was amazed by all of the thought they put into every single detail of the day!

I really love working with the Warren family! It's so much fun to see little A's personality develop--and he definitely has it in spades :) Such a cutie! Look at that awesome smile!

I love it, too, when I get to take parents of just the parents by themselves! So many tell me that their most recent pictures of just them are from their wedding many moons ago--so it's great to give them some updates!

it's been a very busy last two months, but I am looking forward to catching up on blogging now that I'm done with all of my weddings for the year! I still have some shoots coming up this weekend and while I'm in Oklahoma and Texas for the holidays, but after that it's time to bundle up and enjoy the winter!

what an amazing saturday afternoon! and an amazing couple! michele and quent were married in raleigh at pleasant grove united methodist church--the sun was shining, the breeze was blowing and the light was incredible!

I loved that they served danny's bar-b-que at their reception--what a southern touch! it was held at the raleigh elks lodge and both the reception area and the grounds were gorgeous! I loved it that there were so many special touches for their day--they gave away seed paper flowers, michele had her grandmothers' pins on her bouquet and quent even found a penny (heads up!) when we were doing some of the couple pictures! such a special day, indeed :)

my new printer baby

last friday night I went to multiple stores bound and determined to procure a printer--specifically, a wifi enabled, prints-directly on cds, capable-of-printing-awesome-photos kind of printer. oh, and I had a budget.

and then I found this little dude. and since the only one left in the store was the floor model, and they couldn't find the price or the cords or the ink or the installation books, I was left to find my new printer friend elsewhere. thank goodness for amazon.

I am over the MOON about this printer. who knew it could, quite literally, make my day? last night I spent 5 minutes telling one of my best friend about how much awesomeness was shining through everything it printer.

I love it! see how awesome my client's discs look? they're all in the mail, y'all! more printer awesomeness soon... :)

if I had to sum up lauren and pat's wedding in a word, that word would be incredible--the venue was picturesque, I loved the colors, lauren looked radiant, pat looked polished, and it was a sunny (and hot!) day! I loved it that everyone partied the night away too!

and pine lake pavilion was just fantastic! the light in the trees, the details of the venue, and just the overall gorgeousness--I was blown away!

I had been looking forward to this wedding for over a year--and especially since I did their engagement photos! and it did not disappoint :)

I must say--the guys totally rocked their pink, yes? and the horse drawn carriage was unbelievable! and at the bottom, those are lauren's something olds--so sweet!

kristin + erik = married! charleston wedding photographer

you've seen their engagement photos, now it's time for their wedding. it was a hot afternoon in charleston, but it quickly led into a beautiful evening, complete with a light breeze and gorgeous light for their rooftop wedding at the harbor club. kristin looked amazing in her adorable gown, and erik couldn't stop smiling!

it was at this wedding that I was reminded of how important photographers are--how we have the duty and privilege of capturing the moments that people spent hours and hours crafting, but also the moments that the bride and groom never thought of, or, most importantly, those they never saw coming. In this case it was when erik kissed kristin's hand during a prayer (which totally brought tears to my eyes) and the horse and carriage that the maid of honor surprised them with when they exited!

and I loved loved LOVED that they had someone doing caricatures at their wedding. His name was Chad Straka, and you can see his website here. I thought this was a totally fun idea for a wedding favor--and judging by the line to get them done, I think the guests agreed!

it was also pretty awesome to photograph this wedding because these two are/were, literally, my next door neighbors! they now live in a home about a two minute walk away in the same neighborhood, and I love seeing them and hearing how they're enjoying their photos! it always makes me smile :)

kai, chrissy and kris: durham newborn photographer

one of the best parts about photographing newborns is that I often get to visit my clients' homes and see where they live, how they decorate and all that jazz. definitely an enlightening thing!

with chrissy, kris and kai, it was awesome to see how much they looooove photos--they had photos all over their house! pictures from their wedding, engagement photos, arts photos of places they'd traveled, pictures of their friends, pictures of family, etc. and now, I'm betting their walls are covered with pictures of their handsome little boy, kai.

all of the items on that shelf were important to them--kris' baby shoes and body building trophies, chrissy's bridal portrait, pictures of their family, souvenirs from trips they'd taken, thoughtful gifts they'd been given, etc. I loved giving them a picture that had so many sentimental items included!

you already saw katie and ben's engagement photos--now it's time for their lovely, lovely wedding!

I loved all of the details of their wedding, some of which aren't pictured here. Katie's dress had a blue bow and a piece of her mother's dress sewn into the lining. Ben had special earrings for her to open during their first look. Their bubbles were placed in the shape of a heart, they had an awesome candy table and it seemed like every single element had special meaning--I loved it! And a super-shout out to these two for their thoughtfulness--they put extra thought into where we should sit and we had an excellent time with our kickball-playing tablemates :)

this little boy is one the smiling-est babies I've seen in a long time. if you look at the one in the red shirt you'll see his smile--he looked like that 5 minutes into the session, and it was almost like he was waving and saying "hey carrie, nice to meet ya!" my heart melted, I'm not gonna lie. :)

little evan was an answer to his mommy and daddy's prayers, and it was incredible to see the love that just poured forth from them. and I can't wait to see that love in a tangible form--that is, when david draws a picture of evan. check out his AMAZING work, here. my husband matt and I can't wait to have him draw one of our wedding photos for us too! such talent, such love, this family is incredible!

sarah + evan = married! blowing rock wedding photographer

I just love the mountains of north carolina. maybe it's because they are still a novel thing to me--in tulsa we had plenty of rolling hills and lots of shoreline from our lakes and rivers, but I rarely saw real mountains. and there's such an awesome vibe when you travel out west--I just love it!

so of course I was thrilled when sarah and evan's wedding rolled around! I had such fun doing their engagement photos and their wedding was simply gorgeous. see?

also, that top left picture of her dress in a bathtub? tells you just how awesome sarah is! I told her what I wanted to do and, without batting an eye, sarah said "do whatever you want, I trust you completely." and now that is my favorite dress picture EVER. :D

one other awesome thing about this wedding was the venue! It was a lovely little city park and the wedding was on a little peninsula of land with a gazebo. and this wedding helps me answer a question I get all the time. first, the picture:

More often than not I get asked "do I want/need/have to have a second shooter?" It's a totally fair question--weddings have budgets and second shooters cost money! But if you have a second shooter, you can often get perspectives like you do here. These were taken within two seconds of one another. And in this case, my second shooter was my fabulous husband Matt, who second-shoots for me 95% of the time! :)

he was seven days old in these photos--and every bit as cute and cuddly as the day he was born. he was only eleven hours old in this picture. :)

lisa and richard: north carolina engagment photographer

I feel very fortunate to be blogging about yet another one of my dear friends!

Lisa is my very favorite person on my softball team (no offense other Toxic Wasters!)--she has a contagious laugh, a positive outlook on life and can out-run everyone I know other than my husband (who I swear is part cheetah)--but she gives him a run for his money! And once upon a time, she encouraged me to visit a rock climbing gym with her. I did, I had fun, I got lots of bruises and blisters and bought my very own harness. It was awesome!

Just telling y'all this make me want to go to the rock climbing gym now...

so, anyway, while there I also met Richard. He was very nice and quite funny and a very experienced rock climber--and after one of the evenings at the gym I informed Lisa that I was pretttty sure that Richard totally wanted to make out with her. And you know what? I was right.

They met climbing. Their first date was climbing too-Richard took Lisa on her first outdoor multi-pitch climb--meaning they went 600 feet up a mountain and Lisa's life literally rested in Richard's hands! And appropriately enough, Richard proposed to Lisa while they were climbing!

So for engagement pictures, I just knew that climbing had to be involved! What I didn't know is that it would mean walking to the top of a mountain!

We traveled the path of their first date--first, they climbed Stone Mountain (but we hiked up it)! Next we went to the ice cream stop at the entrance to the park, then ate at Foothills Brewing and saw the sites in Winston-Salem. I loved that I could photograph them at such meaningful places!

They'll be getting married this October and my husband and I will be celebrating our 6 month-aversary at their wedding--and I couldn't think of a better way to mark the occasion!

I really love Durham, y'all. It's an awesome city to live in and an even more awesome city in which to photograph.

Jamie wanted some updated headshots and brought her sweet doggie, Sasha, along for the session. I love it when people bring their furry family members, too!

And since the bees were out and about doing their duties, I had to get a picture of that, too, because it made us all smile. :) Thanks again, Jamie! Please give Sasha a scratch behind the ears for me!

I could definitely tell that they just had an understanding of one another and that they appreciate the little traits and quirks that make them who they are! they are a "go together like peas and carrots" couple!

meet jessica and cody. aren't they the coolest? and the silliest?

jessica and I have known each other, for, well, ~80ish percent of our lives. we've been there for each other through awesome accomplishments and stupid boys, bad haircuts and cute clothes, middle school, high school, college and everything inbetween :)

before they left oklahoma for ohio, jessica and cody wanted to get some t-town photos to enjoy in their new residence. plus, we took these only a month before their three-year anniversary, so that worked out nicely, too :)

It was so much fun working an an area that means so much to me, too (I hail from Tulsa, if you didn't already know). Love you guys!

I can't believe how long it's been since I met the fabulous lady in these pictures--I was a college freshman and new member of Kappa Delta and she was a TU alum and very integral to the operation of our chapter. So of course it was AMAZING when she asked me to take pictures of her and her gorgeous family!

so, you know I'm behind on blogging when I'm sharing a maternity session and the baby is already born and more than two and a half months old, ha! but I don't want to miss anything! newborn photos will be up soon for little jack!

the weather and the light were unbelievable for this shoot--but christy and jeff take the cake!

they were such good sports! and since they're also very close friends of mine, it was so very special to get to be a part of this time in their lives! I have to admit, though it is always such an honor to have people let me into their lives and let me chronicle their relationships and family, when my close friends let me do that it is just super touching. I am so lucky to get to be a part of such amazing occasions!

I love these foxgloves! Such awesome flowers! I kind of got distracted by them, I'm not gonna lie. I think they are now my second favorite flowers, right behind the ranunculus. :)

this is my dearest friend Renee--clearly she's the one wearing orange sweater. and that's her husband, Mike.

I've known Renee since I was fourteen. We've been friends for more than half of my life--through high school, going to different colleges, living in different states and all of the craziness that comes with it. :)

she is a fantastic friend and remarkable human being. and when she gets behind a cause, you know it is worthwhile, and you know she will do it wholeheartedly!

in October (and on my 30th birthday!) Renee is participating in the Atlanta 3 Day for the Cure. That's sixty miles of walking, a minimum of $2300 worth of fund-raising and a lot of blisters, soreness, water-drinking and willpower. And she's doing it for you. And me. And for all of us. So that, to quote her page..."so that one day my children or grandchildren will ask, what was cancer?"

Renee is 72% of the way to her goal. You can see her site here. and I want to use my photography to support her cause.

meet the lovely suzanne and the dashing thomas, who are now officially "doctors of pharmacy." and who also happen to be friends of mine. :)

we made sure to visit The Old Well, aka the really important place where you MUST take pictures at UNC's campus. The University of North Carolina is known for The Old Well--and fortunately we didn't have to wait in line to take pictures at it like I did later that week!

I love it when I get to capture the "couple things" that a pair of people do--and suzanne and thomas? they hold pinkies. awwww.

they graduated just a few short weeks ago--and a few days after we took these pictures they got ENGAGED. in PARIS!!! I could not possibly be happier for them!

I cannot WAIT to shoot your wedding next summer!

this was such a fun wedding--it was my first of the year, which is a treat in itself, but I also got to document two of my friends getting married!

it was a bit of a stressful day--Rich hails from England, and that volcano with the unpronounceable name threatened to spoil their hope of having all of their family in! But nearly all of them made it in on the first flight to RDU (which I thought was particularly interesting since the purchaser of this ring took the first flight OUT of RDU to London!) It was certainly a joyous occasion, and I knew they would rock the pictures--because they did such an awesome job at their engagement shoot last fall!

he looked handsome.

she looked breathtaking.

and they had a lot of fun!

there were lots of beautiful details, too!

last week a very good friend of mine jet-setted off to london to ask a lady to do him the honor of marrying him. and she said YES!

but before that happened we met so that I could see THE ring before it flew with him across the pond. you see, I had the pleasure of helping him select said ring (though he had this one in mind the whole time, so I guess it's more like I helped him confirm ruling out all the other options, ha!)

in any case, it was dazzling, and gorgeous and quite photogenic!

two and a half weeks after we took these--little nellie arrived!

and her mom and dad are so in love with her...it's just adorable.

working with this family made me think of the nursery rhyme "snakes and snails and puppy-dog tails." 'cause that's what little boys are made of! I couldn't help it--we had lots of muddy knees, climbing in trees and silly faces!

and they sure do love their mom!

I had the privilege of being the photographer for Duke's 3rd Annual Blue Jean Ball, which benefited Duke's Global Women's Health Initiative.

To me it seemed like there were two rules at this event...
1. wear jeans or something denim.
2. have fun!

The evening started out with a silent auction--with lots of people milling around to make sure they won their item. I won two tickets to see a performance of Little Shop of Horrors in September, so I'm pretty stoked about that!

and even a wine pool hosted by the Kappa Delta Alumnae Association.

and after that--dinner and the party!

such a great time and SUCH a great cause! looking forward to next year already!

they wanted a combo of maternity photos and couple photos at their new home in durham, and I had SUCH fun making that happen!

when we took the pictures their son was as long as four oranges!

we lounged. we laughed. we hung out. they are such dear friends of mine! it was wonderful to be a part of the process of preparing for their son!

and I'll end on my very favorite from the session. the dress, the hands, the cuteness--love it!

if you are a friend of mine, you might recognize these people. or, specifically, the lady here. you might've seen her in my photos for the last 15ish years. because she is my lifelong friend, renee. and this is her husband mike and their adorable dog buddy.

matt and I visited renee and mike earlier this year and made sure to take pictures! renee got them as a present for mike. so cute! you've already seen one of them, here. :)

so, depending on the moment, buddy seemed to think that picture taking was either REALLY fun or something he was SO over. but man, is he photogenic and fun! they say dogs take after their owners, right...so clearly he was meant to be theirs!

we got some adorable ones of just renee and mike, too!

it was a little bit chilly and a little bit rainy, but we still had a good time and GREAT light! and I am so excited that nearly ALL of these photos were taken at their apartment complex--too cool, huh?

we also went to downtown decatur to get just a few more shots--it was getting colder, but renee's jacket is adorable, sooooo it worked out :)

we also got this awesome one that makes me smile every time I see it!

and then this next part is the very best part of photographing friends--we packed up my gear, locked it up and went to enjoy a delicious dinner with yummy beer and excellent conversation, followed up by the guys brewing beer in the kitchen while renee and I checked out the photos. :) excellent way to end a session, if I do say so myself!

I love photographing couples. Plain and simple. And couples with a baby on the way are a special treat--because there's all that love between them, and also all the love they have for their child, and the anticipation too!

With Julie and Luke it was no different--plus, they were up for pretty much anything, so that made it even more fun!

for those of you who haven't heard yet, Matt and I got married last Saturday at The Barn-Vive La Ranch in Tulsa, Oklahoma! Yee-haw!

I'll share some pictures soon--my AMAZING photographers, Nicole Faby and Becki Goodhue are furiously working on the incredibleness. From what I've seen so far I am BLOWN away! But in the meantime, I'll share a picture I took just a week and a half ago...

you see, one of the reasons I was pleased as punch about getting married this time of year was because my very, very favorite flower is in bloom. it only blooms for a very short period of time, and it is GORGEOUS from bud to blossom to compost :)

and I can get it from a local farmer at the durham farmer's market--double win!

these were in pastels, but they come in punchy colors too--you'll see when I show you my wedding photos!

until then, expect to see lots of blogging in the next little bit. I want to be alllll caught up before the end of April (only 7 sessions to go!)

this was my last session of the year with this fabulous family! working with them is so much fun!

this time I met them at their house to get some photos of little N in his element. and boy, was it a treat!

Meet B, P and their son, P.

B and I were in Girl Scouts together, once upon a time. We lost touch, but then as luck would have it, we ended up living just down the hall from each other our freshman year of college. And we have stayed in touch ever since. :)

B is also the first person to ever purchase one of my photos, and has been a huge help and supporter as I've climbed out on this I'm-a-photographer limb. She is also one talented artist!

but back to the photoshoot and their adorable son....

I love this one of B and baby P--and the giraffe makes me giggle! It is like 5 feet tall and has enviable eyelashes! :)

I love how you can just tell what proud parents they are! They are beaming!

I have known Molly since...since...hmm. Well, we met at church camp in I *think* 7th grade. Or, rather, the summer before 7th grade. It feels like a few lifetimes ago!

this was a really fun session! lauren and pat were up for anything, and we got some AMAZING light while we took pictures together. we headed to downtown chapel hill and enjoyed all the area had to offer.

they are such a handsome couple!

and clearly very much in love.

and this is one of my faves from the day. lauren and pat weren't too sure about it when I said "let's take some on the rusty stairs"--heck, even I was just taking advantage of what inspired me! but they obliged, and we are all REALLY pleased with how they turned out!

their doggies, brady and kali, joined us for part of the session. the pups were not really into the whole picture taking part--there was so much to check out! but they cooperated and we got some cute ones of the whole family.

and this bench, right here, is why we chose the location. this is where pat proposed, right at this very spot!

it was a chilly and windy day, but Ryan, Audrey and Sam were real troopers! we met at the Washington Duke Inn to escape from the chill, but ended up getting to spend a few minutes outdoors, too!

Sam was talking and talking and checking everything out the whole time--he's a hilarious little dude! And he brought along his doggie Pip! You might remember them from almost a year ago. he has grown SO much!

marshall contacted me a few months ago to see if I would come to Dallas to shoot his and Ashley's engagement photos, and I couldn't've been more flattered! he and I knew each other in college at The University of Tulsa and had only been in touch on Facebook since. He said he knew I would put them at ease, and I think I did, because we spent the whole time cracking up! :)

I mean, probably a third of the pictures I took look like the one in the upper right hand corner--where both of them are laughing! You can tell they really have fun together!

And the black and white sheep--well, there's a story. And the short version is that they're special to them and that Marshall is the "black sheep"--so of course these sheep had to make a cameo! I love it when clients bring object that have special meaning to them--it adds so much to the photos!

this is one of my favorites--and one of theirs too. such sweetness!

I feel like I'm really fortunate because I often hit it off with my clients--and this couple was no exception. We had SUCH a good time laughing and joking around and taking pictures. And they had some fantastic ideas!

here they are with bogey, who if I recall correctly is an english bulldog. I'm pretty sure he spends most of his weekends posing for the camera--he was a natural!

and he kiiiinda stole the show sometimes.

I had the pleasure of doing another mini-photo shoot for laurie this fall--I'd met her over the summer at our mutual friend's wedding (leanne and jarrod!) and taken some pictures of her and her family then. it was wonderful to see her again!

laurie is unbelievably talented--she writes, she sings and she is always a bright and happy person. It was great working with her! she wanted some photos for her professional use, and I was happy to oblige.

the colors in this one are so fall and so amazing--man, I miss the fall!

I love the one of her twirling--she was turning around and the scarf just spread out--fabulous!

and this is my very favorite from her session. it's the kind of photo where I look at the image in my camera and think "wow!" I love the lines, the colors and how it's of her working!

after taking pictures of the barbours, the rest of the family showed up to get some pictures with all three generations! they were a hoot and so fun to work with!

after we took some of the whole group I made sure to get the sub-groupings. here's "Mimi" and "Bapa" and one of Brad and Abra, too!

and here are Brad and Abra's kiddos. this just looks like how a 6 year old brother and a 4 year old sister should be :) and the picture of everyone playing makes me think of a circus--probably 'cause killian is up in the air!

we also got ones of "just us girls" and "no girls allowed!" :)

the annual photo contest

each year my "day job" has a photo contest. if you've been reading for a while (since the days of my old photography blog, you might remember that I was honored with a first place ribbon for this image in september of 2008!!

due to some exciting goings on at work they moved the contest to the spring, so there wasn't a contest in 2009. but now it's photography contest time!

these are the five photographs I'm entering. I decided it was really important that I not enter photographs that I had been paid to take--I feel like that's not in the spirit of the contest! so without further ado...

this one makes me smile every time I see it. it's a durham farmer's market zinnia, and I LOVE it. I'm entering it in the "nature" category.

this is a picture I took while my fiance and I drove through New York--I took it from the car, with my point-and-shoot. evidence, once again, that though having a super-spiffy camera is great, you can do pretty kickin' things with a point and shoot! I will be entering it in the architecture category.

the next two are miscellaneous entries. the first is of a statue in Woolaroc near Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A few summers ago I took my littlest brother there to check it out--I was born in Bartlesville, and my mom used to take my sister and me to Woolaroc to play. I also visited with my Girl Scout troop and my mom and my dad both took us there a couple of time. Its a very cool nature preserve/museum/garden/wildlife area. This is a statue in the courtyard.

and this is another picture from our Northeastern Roadtrip. We were on a road that was pretty much the highway of antiques, and this was one of many, many, many sets of keys on a pegboard there. I love the texture!!

and last but certainly not least--these are my friends renee and mike. renee helped me clean out her guest room and I thanked her with some pictures! I have SO MANY cool ones to show you (and will. soon!) but this one just rocks and I HAD to enter it in the people category. I love the bricks. I love the colors! I love the love!

voting will begin the second week of march, and I think they'll announce the results later in the month. I will definitely keep you posted :)

for this session, the fourth of the year with this awesome family, we wanted to go somewhere a little closer to their home. we met in cary in this incredible cool park-I really enjoyed shooting there and look forward to going back!

n was max from where the wild things are (by maurice sendack) so we had to capture that moment in time. SUCH a cutie!! and his mom made the crown herself!

I love the smiles in this picture--such a precious family!

and little n just keeps growing and growing--it's always just incredible seeing what new tricks he's picked up since our last session. this time it was standing on his own and dancing!

challie: raleigh senior portraits

Challie wanted a mix of urban and nature settings for her portraits, so we met in downtown Raleigh to be sure to get the variety. She'd had her formal senior pictures done for school, but they just weren't "her." So we made sure to capture her personality! And I LOVE how much thought she put into each of her outfits--she was "put together" from her shoes up!

this is one of my very favorites!

I love how the different outfits each evoke such a different feeling. and check out those kicks! Challie said her dad had said that the shoes didn't matter--they wouldn't be in pictures anyway. clearly, he was mistaken. :)

and WOW. I love this one.

as we wandered around we found this ledge with the brick wall--LOVE it! Challie was game for anything--and that kind of attitude always makes for a great session!

this little guy was such a cutie! he wasn't too sure about the whole picture-taking thing, but he was definitely interested in loving on his parents--it was so precious!

these dolls have special meaning to his parents so they definitely made a cameo appearance. they got them on a trip and when I asked them to think of items of importance/meaning they brought these out. love how they look on the blocks!

it was a misty fall morning--and that made for GREAT photographs! I met S and E at Duke Gardens to capture the fall colors and take their engagement pictures and we had a fantastic time!

my favorite FIRST! I LOVE the intense fall colors!

and it was just touching how sweet they were to each other. sometimes with couple shoots I just end up smiling the whole time seeing how much they love each other. this was DEFINITELY one of those times

s used to come and study under this magnolia tree, so it was pretty special to be able to work it into the shoot!

And some of the staff members were just SO polite and helpful--and I really appreciated that! They made me feel right at home and like I was an honored guest at the same time! :) but moving on...

this is the fabulous family I've told you about many times before. it has been such a joy watching little N grow and change and learn! every time I see them I just can't get over all the new abilities and how BIG he's gotten!

we met at the beautiful Duke Gardens for this shoot one fine saturday morning. I just love the LOVE in this one!

as of january 9th I reached a milestone. a really AWESOME milestone.

see this little dude here? his name is jacob. he's my future sister-in-law's sister's son. and he's a cutie patootie. he is now three months old. and with his session I hit the 100th session mark!!! I am so grateful and blessed to have such exceptional and supportive clients. I am such a lucky duck :D

harvey--tulsa senior pictures

you might've noticed I've not posted in a while. like, um, going on two months. there are a lot of reasons for that (wedding planning + full time job + holiday photography + travel to oklahoma and georgia + grad school final + needing to sleep occasionally) but now? now it's time to catch up.

this is my littlest brother, harvey. harvo. the wonder hamster. harvard avenue. he's almost eleven years younger than I am. I will spare him the embarrassment of stories involving diapers or first words, and instead tell you that ever since we discovered we have similar taste in music, harvey and I have gotten along like peas and carrots.

he is also an extraordinarily talented musician. I suggested he bring an instrument to his session, but he politely declined, explaining that if he brought one, he'd have to bring them all. and they can't all fit in one car. 'cause he plays like, oh, five? six? seems every time I ask he's learned how to play another--and he plays them all very, very well.

come to think of it, I guess my whole family is pretty creative. but moving on to the pictures...we took these in ~12 minutes before my fiance and I headed to the airport to come home. these are at the always-popular Woodward Park in Tulsa--such an amazing place for pictures.

this is definitely harvey.

karen and rich: durham engagement photographer

this is my friend karen and her fiance rich. I've known karen for...let's see...well, I guess we met four years ago. we bonded over graduate thermodynamics taught by a man who was, literally, from transylvania. and had a dracula accent. it was excruciating--we cried together and laughed together (at tests. while taking them!) and celebrated the final by enjoying both icecream and beer. it was THAT bad.

anyway, after that horrible shared experience we talked sometimes and tried to get together, but nothing ever ended up working out, really. but then she was leaving for england to go to grad school for a year and I *had* to attend her going away party.

and during the year she was across the pond we emailed and talked more than we had in the previous three years! (not counting all things thermo) and then one day I got the BEST email! rich had proposed, they were getting married in the states and she wanted ME to do the honor of photographing her wedding!! and, could they please please get some engagement pictures while rich was visiting?

um, YES, of course!

so (and sorry for the all the words, I promise there will be pictures in just a sec!) when talking locations, with karen and rich half a world away, I asked where they met and if there was anything special to them. they said that they met for the first time at a train station: this train station...

so we went to the new amtrak station in downtown durham!

this is my favorite from the whole session--just look how happy they are!

we tried to kind of re-create their real life meeting--rich saw karen before karen saw rich--see?

see that rock in their hand (I mean the one in their hands, not the one on her finger!!)? on the day rich proposed he saw the rock on the ground right near where he asked her--and it looks kind of like a heart. SO sweet!

and I LOVE how sweet they are--and check out those chuck taylors!

weddings and couples are my favorite type of sessions to shoot--there's something about the LOVE that makes my heart smile, you know? it's even better when I get to shoot for someone who I know and whose company I enjoy--and such was the case for this wedding. Along with the pastor and many of the guests, Jo, Ed and I all attend the same church, so it was really fantastic to get to be a part of their special day.

I co-shot this wedding with my friend and fellow photographer, the fabulously talented Nicole Faby, and we had a blast! There were so many beautiful details and lovely touches and WOW! The day started out at Jo's gorgeous house in the more historic area of Glenwood, just north of five-points. It was an intimate ceremony and just so touching!

even jo's doggies dressed up for the occasion! I'd never been to a wedding with dogs before, but it was a hoot! they were so adorable and very well behaved--and pets are part of the family, so it was great they could be a part of the day! I couldn't resist getting pictures of the cuteness!

julie and justin: asheville wedding photographer

I knew this wedding was going to be amazing from the moment I stepped into the Party Barn--and it wasn't the location or the beautiful table arrangements or the horses or the perfect weather. No, it was that I walked up to Julie, introduced myself (we'd only talked on the phone and via email) and she said "no handshakes, friends hug, and we're gonna be friends by the end of today!"

she was right :)

this wedding was held in candler, nc, and wow, wow, WOW! eye candy everywhere, a super-fun bride and groom, and fantastic weather--I couldn't have asked for more.

let's start with the dress: geeeeee-orgeous!

and a touching ceremony--justin's dad officiated.

and so many details--burlap, logs, candles, handmade soap, bird's nest--just made everything gel!

and see that dress-worn by justin's grandmother.

the grandparents? they were PRECIOUS! and grandpa was persnickety in a very awesome way :)go check out the cream-of-the-crop album on my site and you'll see what I mean!

can't you just see how much they love each other? so touching, so adorable!

julie and justin allowed a lot of time for pictures between the ceremony and the reception--it helped a lot that everything was in the same place--and I know they are so thankful they did! check it out...

I'm still playing catch-up! I am richly blessed by all of the amazing photography opportunities that keep coming my way! Weddings, families, newborns, corporate headshots and even a corporate event, wow!

love is in the air! these two lovebirds are living across the pond from each other--she's here, he's there, but when he came to visit they made sure to book a shoot. I am really looking forward to their wedding in april!

this is brandon. he's a rock star, a sweetheart and best friends with my little brother, which basically makes him my other little brother. :) he's also a SENIOR.

and this is harvey, my littlest brother. he is also known as hamster or harvard avenue, and he's probably going to be mad at me for telling you that :) he's also a big bad SENIOR, and of course he had me do his pics. he plays FOUR instruments and couldn't decide which to bring. some day, I think I will have to refer to him as my "famous brother harvey" :)

some of my facebook friends may have seen images from this AMAZING wedding, but I wanted to share them on here too. Syd and I have been friends for AGES. We've known each other since we were in, oh, 4th grade or so, and our paths continue to cross. She is one of my very best friends and I was honored to be her bridesmaid! I also couldn't resist snapping some pictures of the gorgeousness!

the flowers were done by her mother, Jan. She will be doing my flowers in April! She also makes awesome jewelry, check her out.

molly and I met at camp egan when we were in MIDDLE school. we have stayed friends ever since--keeping track of each other first over the phone and through letters, then through youth group, then through email and now through the wonderful world of facebook :)

she and her good friend and neighbor, april wanted some pictures of them together and individually and I was happy to oblige!

it makes me me think of making new friends and keeping the old--and I must say, I love meeting the "silver" ones, but it's the "golds" that are the most touching to work with!!!

On Monday the 12th I got engaged!!! This is my fiance, Matt, and this picture is also how he proposed! He wanted to work my photography into his proposal, and boy did he! We were in Mystic Connecticut on vacation--and while walking across the Mystic River Bridge he had me set the timer on my camera, and then held out the ring in the box behind me so it'd be in the frame. When I went to check it had taken properly, I saw something was in his hand and turned to show him--and he was on one knee!

Details are still in the works, but we're thinking maybe April in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I could not be MORE thrilled. :)

the faby family: raleigh family photography

What a cute family! This is the one, two, three, FOURTH time I’ve photographed this family, in some way or another! I love getting to work with repeat customers :)

We met at NC State, since Mom Faby is an alum, and took a little trip down memory lane. We took pictures at her old dorm, places she hung out and visited some NC State landmarks. We played in the grass, jumped up and down, ran around and had a really good time!

Here’s the whole gang—are they cute or what? Love the outfits, they definitely came prepared for variety!

Here are just the kiddos. The loooove each other. It’s simply precious to see them play!

When I saw this I KNEW I had to photograph it—I’m a Golden Hurricane all the way, but now that I’m going to grad school at State I must say “Go Wolfpack!” too!

And here are two fun black and whites—how perfect that the Free Expression Tunnel said “we love daddy!”—it was meant to be. And there’s Dad Faby and his little girl—adorable!

At the end we worked in a little bit of couple time. Awww! The Fabys just celebrated their anniversary last month—again, congratulations!!

Something little happened to me last week that really made me smile, and I want to share it with you all...

I was having some last-minute images printed at a local camera shop. I was meeting potential clients the next day and wanted to update my portfolio before I met them. [By the way, they booked their 2010 wedding! Allie and Allan I am really looking forward to working with you!]

So, I submitted my images online and left to pick up my lunch, and after I got my food I had a message from the manager of the store...

"Hi Carrie," he said "I'm the manager at Such-and-Such Camera, and I'm calling in regards to the order you placed online. We are not going to be able to print those images you submitted online--they are professional photographs and we cannot print them without a copyright release..."

It just made me smile that even the well-trained eye of the professional printer recognized the quality of my work in a split second. :)

If you're thinking "well, duh!" then think of it this way--it was the photography equivalent of a stranger telling my how cute my haircut is, or how they really love my outfit. Except even better, because it's like I cut my hair or sewed the clothes myself!

and, because all posts on a photography blog should have pictures...here's a picture of a Durham Farmer's Market zinnia that I took in August. I LOVE fresh flowers, and I love taking pictures of them too!

m, s and r brame--raleigh family photos

little R was such a dream to work with--her wide eyes and curiosity meant she looked at the camera pretty much the entire time, AND her parents got a nice surprise when we sat her by herself and she just kept sitting and sitting and balancing herself and sitting. totally cute!! she was exceptionally easy to photograph for a 6 month old!

and I just adore this series--we just sat her in her boppy and she smiled and smiled! look at all those expressions! the middle makes me think of old-time hollywood actresses!

so, sometimes I have to encourage people to get a little out of their comfort range on pictures--and this one of those times. mom and dad weren't too sure about this when I set it up, but they decided to try it, and then ended up LOVING it. I must admit, I do too!

it was SUCH a joy to take pictures of this little girl. I met her mother my freshman year of college at TU, and we roomed together second semester. I never would've gotten through calculus without Laura--or physics. or through living in Twin :) she got me the job doing organic chemistry research ( I did it all four years and one summer!), and we had a lot of fun together doing the things that college kids do, seeing christmas lights, celebrating easter and visiting each other's families.

sometimes it seems pretty surreal that Laura and I met each other TEN years ago. seriously.

so, little Claire is almost three months old here. It was wonderful getting to hang out with her and her mom. I look forward to seeing y'all the next time I'm in Tulsa!

the johnston family--farmer's branch mini-photo shoot

yay! this is the last, but certainly not the least, of my dallas area mini-photo shoots. and it definitely ended on a high note!

as I mentioned a while ago, I was SUPER excited for this session because of the two super-adorable twin boys. and their curly hair. and their cuteness!

and? I happen to be a twin. An Identical Mirror-Image Twin, to be precise. And older by eighteen whole minutes. So I kind of think twins are pretty spectacular...

but, back to the session:

So, it was somewhat rainy out that Sunday morning and our original choice of location wasn't open yet (we'd just picked it at the wedding the evening before and didn't confirm that it would be available)--so we went to the park just down the street and we couldn't have asked for anything better--talk about serendipitous!

Julie and Justin had such a unique and fantastically rustic wedding. I LOVED it! They head to Aruba tomorrow for their honeymoon, so I wanted to make sure to give them just a couple teasers tonight. :) and with the awesomeness of the setting and decorations, it wasn't just hard to choose images--I had trouble deciding which edits I liked best too!

Congratulations! I've known Nancy for a few years now--her husband and my boyfriend are fraternity brothers, and I had the pleasure of attending their wedding this summer. It was SO much fun! And though I'm a TU Golden Hurricane at heart, NCState's Wolfpack is my second pick (since I'm going there for grad school) so I especially enjoyed the reception at the State Club.

this family was my last of my frisco minis. and what a cute one to end with! I've met Heather a couple of times over the past 9-ish years, so I was thrilled to do her session! And I saw Abby when she was a tiny tiny baby last year at our mutual friend's wedding, so I enjoyed seeing the whole family! :)

okay, so it's september and I took these pictures in JULY. two months ago to the day, actually. they got their pictures long ago--I have definitely put all my efforts into editing and meeting deadlines! just means there are lots of goodies for you to see. :)

anyway...

so, zoe and killian were SO cute. she definitely plays the big sister role. and it is obvious that they LOVE grams and papa steve! they were taking care of them that weekend while the parents were away--but I'm excited to meet mom and dad when I come to Dallas to shoot this November!*

what a lovely family, yes? It was so much fun working with this family--they were full of life and enthusiasm and so easygoing!

this waterfall was fantastic--and kind of hidden! I am SO glad we found it!

will and hope really wanted to take a picture with the statue. I have no idea how he managed to climb on it though--it's metal and in full sun and it was already over 90 degrees. Definitely the Texas heat. But they were determined! And I love this picture of brother and sister, don't you?

they look like they just "fit" together, I think.

and this is my fave from the entire session! Sometimes I suggest a jumping photo and people are very hesitant--but not this family! They went in whole hog, cheesing it up for the camera and I LOVE it. Well done, well done! And an extra high-five to the parents, 'cause they're even more enthusiastic than the kiddos!
