[art prints and portraiture, with a focus on moving life]

beginning afresh

Thank you for visiting!

Welcome to the new, improved Carrie R. Richardson Photography!

Many of you might be familiar with my other photography blog--it's here. I think that's more of a personal journey/ travel/ share with friends kind of blog and less of a showcase my portfolio kind of blog, so I'm starting anew. I have other types of photography blogs here, here and here, if you want to see more of what I've done in the past.

And if you aren't familiar with my photography, here's the rundown--at the end of the day, it's all about the love. The love of sunshine and angles, the love of shadows and sunsets, the love of laughter and beauty. That's why I do what I do--because it's something I love.

I'm a pun-loving Chemical Engineer, environmentalist, Kappa Delta and Okie. I moved to the area from Tulsa a little over five years ago, and I now work as an Air Quality Engineer. I love pretty much every bit of North Carolina--the trees, the people, the sights, but I'm not a huge fan of the difficult-to-navigate roads, and I miss the breathtaking Oklahoma sunsets.

And now I'm gonna toot my own horn a little--I placed three times in local photo contests and my photo was the crowning image in Our State Magazine's April 2008 "In Bloom" photo essay. I've loved photography since I was a little girl, and my interest stems from Girl Scout camp and pinhole photography in physics as a high school senior, so getting to do all this is a huge source of glee for me!

Really, I try to tell a story with my pictures. Of people's character and relationship, and of items and places and perspectives often overlooked. I want to capture the essence of the moment, and somewhere down the road, I want the viewer to see the emotions and interactions and ideas that I caught with my lens.

I've got some projects in the works, such as visiting all 50 states and taking pictures to ultimately make a coffee table book--right now I'm halfway there, and I'll be well past half by the end of this summer. This July I'll be shooting my first wedding. And right now my pictures are up for sale in a super delicious RTP restaurant (their soup in a breadbowl will knock your socks right off!).

And to start this off right, I want to show you some of my all-time favorite pictures I've ever taken. I have a thing for crayons. And cars. And flowers. And architecture. And color. And life. So these are pictures that made me clap or click my heels or drop my mouth when I saw them.

But those kind, the ones that claim your full attention, the ones that you always remember in your head? Those are my very favorite kind of pictures to take.
